Portuguese is official in Portugal and Brazil, then in Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor. Macau keeps it as an official language next to Chinese. Brazil holds the overwhelming majority of speakers. European and Brazilian Portuguese share writing more than they share rhythm: Brazilian você and open vowels will not match Lisbon speech. The app uses European Portuguese. You will still be understood in Rio; you will sound like you learned it in Portugal.
