Italian: where it is used and how it is written. A few phrases to start are below.
Where it is used
Italian is official in Italy, San Marino, and Vatican City, where it is used with Latin. It is also one of Switzerland's official languages, in Ticino and in parts of Graubünden.
How it is written
It uses the Latin alphabet. You will meet à, è, é, ì, ò, and ù. The letters j, k, w, x, and y appear mainly in loanwords.
A useful place to start
Greetings, articles, and the present of a few common verbs are a clear start. Gender and agreement show up early.
