Dutch is official in the Netherlands, in Flanders in Belgium, in Suriname, and in Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten.

How it is written

It uses the Latin alphabet. In writing, ij is treated as a unit. Nouns take de or het.

de and het are not optional. Learn which article goes with a noun as you meet the word.
