用在哪里

English is the language most countries add on airport screens when they add a second one. It is official or de facto in the UK, Ireland, the United States, Canada (with French), Australia, and New Zealand. In India, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Singapore, and the Philippines it sits beside other languages: courts, universities, and a lot of office work still run in English. Counts jump around depending on whether you include second-language speakers; the useful fact is that you will meet it far from English-speaking countries.

  • United KingdomOfficial. England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland — accents change fast.
  • United StatesDe facto national language. Federal work, courts, and most workplaces.
  • CanadaOfficial with French. English dominates outside Quebec.
  • Australia & New ZealandOfficial. Spelling follows British habits, not American ones.
  • IrelandOfficial with Irish. Everyday speech is almost all English.
  • IndiaAssociate official with Hindi. Common in IT, higher education, and courts.
  • Nigeria & KenyaOfficial. City life and national media use it next to many local languages.
  • SingaporeOne of four official languages. The language of most schools and business.

有什么用

Work

Job ads in tech, tourism, and export firms ask for it even when the office is in Istanbul, Berlin, or São Paulo. It is also a UN working language.

Travel

Hotel desks, intercity trains, and museum captions often default to English as the extra language. You still want local words for food and small talk.

Study

A large share of scientific papers and English-taught university programmes use it. That is a reason to learn it, not a promise that this app is an exam course.

真正会用到的城市

These are places where English is the street language, or the one strangers will reach for. A week in any of them will correct textbook English faster than another word list.

  • London

    United Kingdom

Tube maps, pub orders, NHS letters. People from everywhere; you will hear more than one accent before lunch.

  • New York

    United States

Fast speech, a lot of Spanish in the mix, street names you already know from films.

  • Dublin

    Ireland

English with an Irish rhythm. Street signs are often bilingual.

  • Sydney

    Australia

Beach suburbs and a very Australian vowel set. Spelling is colour, not color.

  • Singapore

    Singapore

MRT signs in English. In a hawker-centre queue you will still hear Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil.

  • Lagos

    Nigeria

English plus Nigerian Pidgin in markets and on the radio. Official English is what schools teach.

  • Toronto

    Canada

Canadian spelling, French on federal signs, a dozen other languages on the subway.

  • Edinburgh

    United Kingdom

Scottish English in shops; Gaelic on some signs. Useful if London English is all you have heard.

应用读的是哪种口音

The app's audio is American (en-US). British spelling — colour, travelling, centre — still shows up in UK and Commonwealth material. People understand both. Indian, Nigerian, and Singaporean English are real varieties, not mistakes; this course does not try to teach them as separate tracks.

适合谁

如果英语不是母语。菜单留在已经会的语言里。我们不承诺考试班,也不承诺 N 天流利。
